Overview

Prince Edward County – or ‘The County’ as it is affectionately known – is a lively and genuine island community in southern Ontario. Artists and musicians, farmers and market gardeners, winemakers and others all live and work here in creative harmony. This is also home to Sandbanks, one of the most spectacular beaches in Canada and the largest freshwater sandbar and dune system in the world.

Crowned ‘the gastronomic capital of Ontario’ by The Globe and Mail, Prince Edward County is one of the few places in Canada where you can pair organic, locally farmed delicacies with superb wines produced only steps away. The County’s Taste and Arts Trails – charming, well-marked routes for drivers and cyclists alike – showcase the area’s heritage architecture and streetscapes and feature stops at over 40 wineries, eateries and galleries.

From April to October, The County’s arts scene is in full swing. Over 800 kilometers of shoreline with diverse geological features make Prince Edward County a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and naturalists. Water lovers quickly discover countless special spots for swimming, fishing, canoeing, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. Hikers and bikers can explore The County’s diverse geography at a dozen conservation areas which offer a range of activities from family friendly ambles to a 49 kilometer trek, and every challenge in between.

Prized for its uncommon flowers and plant life, Prince Edward County is also a globally designated Important Bird Area (IBA). Avian enthusiasts from around the world flock to The County’s south shore during the spring and fall migratory seasons for a bird’s eye look at 349 different species.
